Positioners attach to actuators on different types of valves and regulators – controlling many aspects of process variables including Pressure, Flow, Temperature and motion. This includes process heating, cooling, mixing, etc and the list goes on.

Positioners have pressure gauges mounted on them to monitor air supply and controlled output for 2 or more movements (Typically P1 is for actuation, P2 if for return to normal). These gauges are mounted in a small area close together, close to the valve and positioner body - so dial size is critical.
